U4GM Reports on Modern Warfare 4 Beta Content

Players who want a proper first look at Modern Warfare 4 won't have to wait much longer. Infinity Ward has set up two beta weekends in late August, and the schedule gives different groups a chance to get involved. From August 21 through August 25, access is reserved for people who pre-order or get a code through promotions, creator drops, or community giveaways. If you're trying to arrive with your aim and movement already dialled in, CoD MW4 Bot Lobbies are already part of the conversation among players who'd rather practise without getting thrown straight into sweaty public matches. Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC players are included in this first window, with the beta expected to begin shortly after the CoD Next broadcast.

Open access starts a week later

The second session runs from August 28 to September 1, and this is the one most people are watching. It's open to everyone, so there's no need for a pre-order or code. Nintendo Switch players are also expected to join during this period, which makes the test much broader than a typical Call of Duty beta. That platform angle matters. Players will be checking frame rate, controls, visibility, and whether cross-play feels fair when Switch users meet console and PC squads. A beta is never the finished product, of course, but it can show where the rough edges are before launch day. It also gives friends on different systems a reason to squad up early and see how well the new game holds together.

Modes will test more than raw aim

Infinity Ward says the beta will feature up to 19 weapons, enough to give players a decent sense of the early meta without opening every attachment and build. The playlist selection sounds varied too. Small 3v3 Skirmish matches should suit players who enjoy quick fights and constant pressure, while Ground War will bring larger maps, vehicles, and the usual mix of organised pushes and total chaos. Search and Destroy is the big surprise. It doesn't often appear in early Call of Duty tests, yet it's one of the best ways to spot problems with map design, sound cues, and weapon balance. One bad angle can decide a round. For players looking to improve faster, some are weighing guides, squad coaching, and options such as MW4 Boosting for sale before the wider player base settles into familiar strategies. There's also a new mode called Kill Block, plus a movement course that should let players get comfortable with the revised traversal system without a scoreboard hanging over them.

CoD Next sets the tone on August 21

CoD Next returns on the same day as the early-access beta, though this year's show is moving online rather than bringing everyone into one venue. That could make the event feel less polished, but it should also bring in more creators from different regions and play styles. Expect plenty of live gameplay, weapon breakdowns, map reactions, and the usual rush to identify what looks overpowered. The useful part is that viewers won't be left waiting long after the stream ends. They'll be able to boot up the beta themselves and test the claims. Someone may swear a rifle has no recoil, then you try it for ten minutes and find out it only works at one range with a certain setup. That's the fun of a public test.

DMZ remains the unanswered question

One major piece of the Modern Warfare 4 picture is still missing: DMZ. There's been no confirmation that the extraction mode will appear in either beta weekend, and there's no clear word on whether it will get a separate test before the game arrives on October 23. That gap leaves room for speculation. DMZ needs different feedback from standard multiplayer, especially around pacing, loot value, AI encounters, and how punishing an unsuccessful extraction feels. A dedicated test would make sense, though nothing has been promised. Until more details arrive, the August beta is the main chance to learn the maps, experiment with guns, and work out whether Modern Warfare 4's new movement feels natural once matches start getting serious.
